Twilight pages 179-218

On the car ride home with Edward, Bella starts wondering how Edwards mind reading works, and learns from him that he can't read hers. This is a key reason she's so interesting to him. He has never met anyone who has been such a challenge for him. Edward then wants to hear Bella's theories on what he is and why he can do the things he does. Bella thinks about telling Edward about the tribal story, but reconsiders. She then tells Edward that it doesn't matter to her what he is. This seems to make Edward angry.
Edward finally admits to being a vampire although he doesn't use the term. She asks him about his diet, and he explains that his family drinks animal blood. He also explains that they go away "hunting" for weeks at a time which is why he misses so much school. Edward acknowledges his "thirst" for Bella, "I didn't want to leave, but it was necessary. It's a bit easier to be around you when I'm not thirsty." It's as if with every word Edward is just trying to convince Bella that he's dangerous. The ride comes to an end, and Edward promises Bella before saying goodbye that he'll be in school the next day.
The next morning when Bella heads outside to her truck, she finds Edward in his Volvo, waiting for her in the driveway. He asks her if she'd like a ride to which she replies yes. On their way to school, Edward tries to hear Bella's thoughts with no luck. She tells him that he wouldn't want to hear her thoughts anyways, but that only makes him irritated. When Bella arrives at school she is bombarded by questions from Jessica which Edward already told her how to answer by reading Jessica's mind. It is established that the two are now a couple. Bella tells Jessica that she feels like she likes Edward way more than he likes her.
At lunch, It is obvious Edward has been listening in on the girl's conversations because he tries to convince Bella that he is the one who likes her way more than she likes him. Bella can't believe that though she's "absolutely ordinary," and he's gorgeous. The rest of lunch they talk about weekend to come with him  to a private place outdoors. He suggests that Bella tell her father who she'll be with so Edward has a reason to bring her back, but she decides not to. After lunch they head off to class.
